Default What's your opinion?

Recently bought 2 new rums I hadn't tried...what is your opinion on:
Ron Matusalem Gran Reserve and Santa Teresa Ron Antiguo de Solera?

To me, the Ron Matusalem was the better of the two.

To me they are very different, but enjoyable.

I taste a mix of Cuban style and Dominican style in the Gran Reserva which is quite unique.

ST1796 did not appeal to me at first, but it grows on you. A lot. It even became one of my favorites and I would rate it over the Matusalem, but that's a personal taste.

It would be interesting to see if you have the same opinion in a few months.

Cheers !

I look forward to seeing how your palate evolves as well.

I haven't tried the Santa Teresa, but my opinion of the Matusalem was quite negative as shown here:

Not that it is a bad rum, but I guess I have more of a sweet tooth when it comes to sipping rums. Ron Matusalem tasted more like a brandy to me.

The santa teresa is harder for me to come by, so I'd actually have to say that one if for no other reason than I can't get by the fact that it is difficult to obtain locally

I'm with Ed on this one; it will be interesting to see how your palate develops.

To my taste, the Santa Teresa has much deeper taste, far greater complexity and length of finish than does the Matusalem. One's palate does seem to change over time. Sweeter rums may find less favor and the depth and complexity of less sweet rums seems to be better appreciated.

BTW you might enjoy Ron Atlantico, another Dominican produced rum in a Cuban style like Ron Matusalem, but with more going on, including a longer finish.
