Hmmmm...Oh well, I guess I got to let my tastes change before I revisit it.

I would say Angostura 1919. First time I tasted it, it was like drinking a candle.

I'm surprised by some of the rums being mentioned as disappointing - Z23, El Dorado 15 and Pampero Anniversario are among my favorites - I guess taste is a funny thing.

I would love to hear which rums you do like to drink if those are not up there for you.

Precisely.

For instance, many folks enjoy smoking cigars and I cannot fathom a more putrid smell (and trust me, working in a hospital I smell lots of REALLY bad smells). We all have profoundly different tastes, likes and offenses. Good thing there are so many choices!

And certainly, our assessments are colored by our expectations. We may be far more disappointed in a offensive rum (or anything else) that has enjoyed an enormous reputation, and we may be pleasantly surprised by an inexpensive "find" that doesn't taste half bad. As my old school roommate used to say:
"There's nothing in life so wonderful as a really good shit; and nothing quite so disappointing as bad sex"

I go with Sea Wynde. I find this rum to be overly loaded with congeners (which is understandable with its Jamaican roots) however it lacks roundness, the kind of roundness I would expect from a $45 bottle of rum.

El Dorado 12 wasn't as good as I thought it would be

I have never purchased a rum that was so bad I was tempted to use it as cleaning solution. But the one rum in my collection that is so disappointing that I rarely return to it is the 10Cane. The flavor is not appealing to me as a sipper, and it also adds very little as a mixer. I see it as a triumph of marketing over substance.

10 Cane makes an excellent Daiquiri.

10 Cane is my go to rum for Mojito's, that is if I don't have some Havana Club around. I have found through lots of experimentation that it is probably the best rum I have had for them.

Hmmmm, let's see. I like ED 12, Cockspur 12, Cruzan single barrel estate, Pyrat Pistol and Cruzan Blackstrap just to name a few....

I have a handle of Zhenka Tropical Dark Rum that I believe was formulated for the sole purpose of being used as a cleaning solution. I seriously doubt a paint huffing bum would drink that garbage.
