Maybe I overlooked it but I haven't seen any questions or polls about any member's favorite rum. I'm not asking for the 'best' rum, just some favorites. I'm pretty new to rum myself but Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is my favorite so far. Thoughts? Opinions?

Old Sam. I've had a bottle in my cabinet for over forty years (not the same bottle). I've got a number of "better" rums, but there's always Old Sam.

Pure Gold's my fave. But yeah, Rick Prosser, Damon O'Neil, and Philip Larsen did good with Double Barrel.

Default Two of my favorites are not on the pick list

For 20 years or so I was a fanatic fan of Cockspur 12 (Cockspur VSOR) from Barbadoes. I would buy it by the case. A couple of years ago a friend introduced me to Plantation Estate Reserve Rum which is also from Barbadoes. I found Plantation even better for sipping than the Cockspur. I loved the butterscotch finnish. I have recently discovered a Rum named Kaniche XO at a Rum tasting event. It is very every bit as smooth as Plantation and very affordable. Is there a reason why these rums are not on the favorites pick list?

Kaniche and the Plantation are one and the same. As Cignac/Ferrand products they are widely bashed much like Bacardi.

Marks and Spencer stock a Bajan and Guatemalan rum both of which are Plantation rum's re-bottled. Decent buys at £25 or less

Definitely my three favorite rums are:
  1. Carupano Oro (12 years of aging)* (a marvel of dark, with scent of almonds; on the palate, its flavor is a mixture of oak, caramel, almond sweetness, and that characteristic touch of most distilled rums in the Sucre State region (Venezuela): a certain salty flavor.)
  2. DUSA Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva*
  3. Santa Teresa 1796 Antiguo de Solera*

(*): "Ron de Venezuela D.O.C." (Appellation d'origine contrôlée, A.O.C.)

Note: Ron Carupano, is the oldest rum distillery in Venezuela, founded in 1762 (from there I took my nickname, only modifying the letter "C", by the "K", to avoid any confusion with the brand). The second oldest distillery in the country, is Santa Teresa, created in 1796. Ron Carupano is not yet in the database of this site.
