To this day Zaya is still on my top 3 favorite rum lists. I drank it before and after the change. I still find it a wonderfully smooth rum, and choose not to compare it to its previous iteration.

Here is my humble opinion on the Zaya. Pre 2008 the rum was complex and played on the back of the palate after the initial rum flavor and cane sweetness. Post 2008, the became perfumey and more sweet. All of the flavors are on the front of the palate and there is no desirable finish on the back of the palate.

That said, I still keep a bottle around for those drinkers who like Captain Morgan cokes or Seagrams 7 and 7 when they want to sip a rum with me.
