Default Cuban Rum. (??)

Are there any rums of note that come out of Cuba? Will I find them on the shelve when I depart the US for England & Europe?

German merchants seem to have an abundance of Havana rums amongst many other varieties and for fairer pricing than Britain (at least from my casual observance). Whisky prices appear to be better in many cases as well.

My favourite actual cuban brand is Santiago de Cuba (8 or 11 y), followed by Ron Varadero (7 y). Both rarely available in germany, most popular is Havana Club, you can get this one in every supermarket. Ask for the first two mentioned in special liquor stores.

Greetings

I had a bottle of Varadero a few years ago and really liked it though the next bottle of slightly less age didn't impress me nearly as much. But I would try another.

When I dream up a better job, I'm going to take it. In the meantime, the research continues.

Thats the Ron Varadero 5yr old which is harsh fire water - I'm not sure what happens in the next two years, but the 7 yr old is quite good.

I think any of the Cuban rums over 7yrs is recommended.

Ahoy Matusalem,
The plan is to visit Austria, Germany, France and the Netherlands then on to jolly old England.
Cheers and all that kind of stuff,
Jim

stock up on rums of Demerara region when in England and Netherlands; rums of Guadeloupe and Martinique while in France; private labels not available in the US in Germany. Schnapps in Austria.
