Default Good rum day

Couple of good things happened today as far as my rum collecting goes.

First, I went to the ABC store near my work just to say hi and pick up some Goslings to make Dark n' Stormys. Never tried them before, and I heard great things. As I was purchasing my Goslings, I noticed something on the shelf that wasn't there before. El Dorado 15 year! I asked the clerk if they were intent on stocking it permanently, and was told they were. Upon returning to work, I checked the ABC website, and sure enough it was was listed. Previously they had the 5 year, but not the 15. Needless to say, I was pretty excited. The clerk, noticing my excitement, noted that he had something really special in the back. I asked him what it was, and he brought out a bottle of Appleton 21, a rum that isn't even listed on the special order catalogue. Apparently a local restaurant had done a rum tasting and purchased some, and in VA they have to go through the ABC stores. The store had 3 bottles left over, but weren't telling anyone about them. He agreed to put a bottle away for me.

Second, on the way home I stopped by another ABC store to grab the ginger beer (the first one was all out, but there was another near my house that stocked some). This store had a box of Ron Zacapa 23, again a rum that isn't listed in the special order catalog, and I had been told was not orderable when I had previously asked. They had one box sitting out on the shelf. Asked the clerk about it, and apparently some guy had begged and pleaded and begged and pleaded and finally got them to order it for him (note to self) only to renege and not purchase it. So they had a box out on the shelf for $40. I snagged it posthaste.

Haven't tried the Zacapa yet, but the Dark n' Stormy is a great mixed drink. All in all a good rum day to end a good rum week.
Rum -- because God loves us and wants us to be happy.
