Default Shedding Some Light on the Cruzan Light Situation

1. Cruzan Rum is a relatively Small Distillery.
2. Since V&S has taken over the sales of Cruzan Rum light has increase by 39%.
3.Cruzan Rum is having difficulites keeping up with the new found demand.
4. Cruzan Light is the Same Rum as Cruzan Dark, but under goes a very rigours and charcoal filerization process that some have argued leaves a charcoal taste to the spirit.
5. By aging the rum or rather adding 14 month old rum to the light, again the original light rum is a mix of 2-3 year old rum, it will allow Cruzan to produce more rum.
6. The decision to move to a 14month age process was a decision made by Gary Nelthropp the president of Cruzan Rum and not by V&S.
7. Cruzan Rum will temporarily suspend the production of the Diamond Estate Rum for about a year. They are simply running out and need to replenish the line.

Finally I was encouraged to mix the light in some cocktails. They contend that since most folks mix the light instead of sip it the rum will still do very well.

I hope this clears things up for you. Last but not least V&S was just recently bought out by Pernod out of France.
