25 year old rum

A few years back, I found an old glass bottle of Bacardi Rum that my mother had stashed and forgotten about. It has one third left in it, and hasn't been touched in years. She says it would have been purchased before my sister was born, and my sister is 27... I had a glass lastnight and kept expecting it to make me sick. It taste fine, extra sweet. Does anyone know of any adverse affects that a bottle of rum that was opened 25+ years ago might have?

Welcome to the forums Dr Kev. In regards to the ill effects of storing bottles of rum there are several threads. Look near the bottom of the page and you'll see a list of similar threads.

The short answer is that the rum was probably well sealed or it would have tasted flat. It might have lost some alcohol but it sounds like the bottle isn't going to last long enough for that to matter.
