Rhum Clement VSOP
I have yet to try a Rhum Agricole. The only one I have found in any stores in my area is Rhum Clement VSOP or the Clement Premiere Canne. I normally drink an aged dark rum. Would this be a good choice for a Agricole virgin?

The Clement VSOP would be a good choice. The Premiere Canne would probably be quite a shock. :-)
The VSOP is very good, quite complex, but drier than you're probably used to. It's definitely recommended, just be prepared for something different compared to an old dark molasses-based rum.

The VSOP is a good one. A little cognac - like, and very good.

Good, but americanized
The VSOP is targeted for their reintroduction in the American market, and in my opinion has been toned down quite a bit from their previous rhums. It is smooth and dry, but lacking a lot of the agricole character and body that their six-year old and other rhums available in the US in years passed possessed.
But I'm such an agricole rhumhound I was darned glad to see it!

At WhiskyFest, several Clement presentations were offered that I don't recall seeing previously here. I didn't get the chance to ask, but got the impression that maybe these were items new in the US market or if not - definitely new to the SF market.
Does anyone know currently what is available stateside? I had never seen the X.O. or Cuvee Homere (sp?) for sale here.

All the Clement rhums shown at Whiskey Fest are now available in California. I'm sorry I missed Whiskey Fest in SF this year I arrived in town Tuesday and met a number of hung over people Wed and even Thursday.
