White Rums

Whether you call them, clear, silver, white or simple 'see through' how do you drink them?

Default Light PR style white rums for cocktails

My go-to light Puerto Rican style white rum was Cruzan Light. I would use it any time the Beachbum Berry's recipes called for PR, Virgin Island, or Santa Cruz rums. When I heard that they were changing their aging from 24 months to 14 months, I hoarded what I could. Alas, the last ounce of my 24-month Cruzan light went into a Navy Grog last night.

What should I get as a replacement light style white rum for cocktails?

I like the Flor de Caña Extra Dry (4 yr).

(I hadn't heard that Cruzan was changing their again. Does it taste any different?)

Take a look at Santa Teresa Claro. It is as close I've found to the Havana Club 3 year old white rum I used to drink in the islands.

When I dream up a better job, I'm going to take it. In the meantime, the research continues.
