Default 2 relatively new rums I saw

I was browsing in a local liquor store (MD) and noticed 2 rums that I have not seen before then:

Kilo Kai Spiced Rum (from Curaçao); sounds like the dance club where I went to Unversity ("Hawaii Kai")

Kraken Black Spice Rum

I looked on the MoR directory and didn't see any distilleries in Curaçao. Has any tried or reviewed these 2 rums? What are their honest impressions? Being hardcore Conservative, I tend to move away from rums that sound like dance clubs and tend to respectfully question the new/non-established rums.

I recently tried Vizcaya Cask No. 21 VXOP. Very delicious; one of my new favourite rums!

Sláinte,
Whit

I've seen the Kilo Kai but have not tried it.

The Kraken is probably my favorite spiced rum. Very rich flavors... vanilla, anise, spices - clove is dominant in the spices but not overpowering. This is great in a Kraka Libre or a Krak N' Stormy.

I have a bottle of Kraken, and I don't think it's good enough to serve as a sipping rum-- there's a lot of vanilla flavor masking some off-putting spices (in my opinion). It's okay for mixing if you find the right recipe. So far I've only used it in rum n' cokes and dark n' stormys.

I haven't read good things about Kilo, but since I haven't tried it, I'll let others speak to it. Running a keyword search in the forums will probably give you ample feedback.

I enjoy Vizcaya very much, by the way. One of my favorites also.

By the way, Brinley's Shipwreck spiced rum is rum of the month here-- I recommend that handily over Kraken if you can find it. I bought a bottle on Saturday and I'm already running low (further confession: and I'm the only one in the family who's drinking it!)

we bought a bottle last Christmas for 'nog duties. It's ok for that but any other way we tried is 'less than perfect' . The bottle should get us through the next few Christmas Seasons.

Kilo Kai is a fantastic spiced rum, rums aged 3 years I believe. I like its flavors, as it is different than any other spice Ive tried.

Kraken to me doesnt stand out as a "spiced" rum, however you can taste the Trinidad rums in it very well which leads to enjoyment for my gullet.

One of the ways I rated rums on my boat was by how long the bottle lasted.

The kraken is smooth with a nice spice ending no bitters or dry to it at all very good as a mixer in cola or just in a tummbler over ice with a slice of lime

The Kraken is some awesome stuff.....I see it becoming a new fad around here at the Marine Base. I had the store order it and that stuff flew off the shelves.

Kilo Kai is so so.......I like the sweet stuff but that stuff is way sweet.
