Default Hamilton rums in the UK

Hello!

I'm more an observer than an active participant in this forum so I hope it's not too brash to just come forward and ask.

I've been really getting into Tiki recently and it's a community that's growing here in the UK. We have a slight issue however in that some key rums are missing from our shores to make for a true and complete Tiki rum collection.

This is a void that would most certainly be filled by Hamilton rums being available in the UK. In particular, the Jamaican, Demerara 86 and 151. I was wondering if this was possible and if not, wondered what the major prohibitions are that are stopping us getting brands like Hamilton, Lemon Hart and Cruzan hitting our shores?

There are a lot of factors in getting rums across international borders, besides the obvious freight considerations.

For Hamilton rums, the bottle size is a consideration. Spirits are bottled in 750ml bottles for the US and 700ml for the UK and Europe.

Distribution is another challenge. In order to make shipping worth the cost a supplier has to ship the better part of a container, and then have someone on the other end that is going to sell it, or it becomes unprofitable and the brand dies.

For Hamilton rums, I'm working on European/UK distribution but everything takes time. Rum wasn't built in a day.

Hello Ed and thanks for taking the time to come back to me.

I am really encouraged to hear that you are/have been pressing for European distribution of your range of rums.

I've come to understand a little around the problems of distribution and have found there are issues on both sides of the ocean; certainly there are many fantastic bottles and ranges available here in the UK that are highly sought and not available over in the States. I just wish we lived in a world where everyone could have access to these products and not be stymied in their journey to discover new and exciting drams and libations!

I'm not sure if it'd be of any help to you, but perhaps the most successful distributor in the UK now is Atom Supplies, who are responsible for Master of Malt. They seem to reach a little farther than others in terms of supply chain.
Another option might be Maverick Drinks, who've been instrumental in bringing two of the biggest craft spirit producers, St George and FEW, into the European market. Apologies if this is old news, but I am very keen to see supplies open up on my shores.
