Default Myers/Blackstrap?

How does Cruzan's Blackstrap compare to Myers Original Dark Rum?

To my taste, Cruzan's Blackstrap has much more molasses flavor than Myers's.

Cruzan has a much stronger molasses flavor but is almost smoother than Myer's. I hands down prefer the Black Strap to Myers.

I realize now that I have not bought a bottle of Myer's rum since I discovered Barbancourt in 1976. I really enjoy Cruzan Black Strap in certain situations (my bottle is empty) but must make amends now and get a bottle of Myer's to test alongside my next purchase of the black strap.

Perhaps a more interesting comparison could be made with Black Strap, Coruba and Whaler's Dark.

Rum Pundit Ian Williams loves Myer's. He drinks it on the rocks religiously. Last time we went on a drinking stroll I was surprised to discover he preferred it to Zacapa.

Myers is the first dark rum I have purchased. You can find it literally everywhere!

I've poured it on my pancakes. Not bad!!!

I am a big Myer's drinker. I am also a big Cruzan suppoter. But I have not tried their blackstrap. I will pick up a bottle of blackstrap when my Myers run low. Do you recomend drinking these on the rocks? I always use them in cocktails as a second rum or as a floater.

I don't think our friend was drinking Zacapa before they changed the bottle and rum a few years ago. Myers's and Zacapa are like comparing white and red wine.

I parked the Myers for most things except cooking and hot buttered rum (I like it for making rum sauce in desserts) a couple of years ago after I discovered Pampero. Just a few nights ago, I went back to it to see what I thought and poured a dram or two. Not bad, not bad at all. The Rodney Dangerfield of my collection? Could well be. I think I may be back to it after all these years. I still have a lot to discover about the bottle of Black Strap I bought a week ago, but at this moment I think I prefer the Myers.

Myer's dark straight up tasted like whiskey. I was greatly disappointed after paying higher $ than normal. Was much better mixed with anything (including water) - had more of a rummer flavour when cut.

Maybe too good for my novice taste buds?

I don't think of Myer's as a sipping rum at all. I use it only as a cocktail mixer and actually prefer Coruba when I need a dark Jamaican rum. There are way too many rums of similar price that are much better sippers to be drinking Myer's (like Diplimatico Reserva Exclusiva).

I do like the blackstrap a lot, but not neat - I like it in a Corn 'n Oil (3 parts blackstrap to 1 part falernum on ice).

Blackstrap also makes a nice float whenever you are mixing a drink with pineapple juice - a great taste combination.
