My last purchase was a bottle of Seven Tiki Spiced rum, although it was one of those times where I was about to leave the liquor store empty handed and on my way out grabbed a bottle anyway...I just couldn't resist since I have a soft spot for spiced rums.

Found another bottle of Clipper last night. I believe this one is older than the first I found, either way, it has a different label. I picked it up and will compare the 2 bottles I have. I also grabbed a Mt. Gay Eclipse gift set on my way to a get together with some friends. The glasses that are included are pretty nice too.

I use the PM Guyana 34 year old in training as the perfect example of over-aged, spoilt rum. It's like chewing on the wood fibres from a barrel....

There was a 32 year old in that range that was the closest thing I've ever tasted to the Wray & Nephew 17 year old. Sadly, I think we drank it all ......

Smile Ed 15

Just bought a bottle of El Dorado 15 year. ED 12 might be my very favorite rum, so I was shaking with anticipation when I poured some ED 15.

I have found that I am often regretting posting a first impression, but with that caveat, I have to say I much prefer the 12 to the 15. Probably because my fondness for sweetness seems to outweigh my appreciation for complexity, but that's my first impression.

Considering my local liquor store has ED 12 for $24.95 and the ED 15 is $33.95 the ED 12 is an unparalleled value (at least to me).

ED15 reminds me a lot of Flor de Cana 7, another rum that I enjoy from time to time as a sipper even though it lacks the sweetness of my preferred sippers. Quite a price differential there too

I just purchased a bottle of 12yr old St Nicholas Abby. A very interesting place to visit. Got to try the 10yr but not the 12. Got a personalized inscription on the bottle which I can take back and get refilled at 1/2 price. We are coming back to Barbados in Aug and hopefully in a few years have a bottle with many inscriptions (and memories).

In honesty though I did just get a 375ml of Foursquare at the supermarket to last the 3 days until we go home.

I have not had the Abbey 12, but I have an empty inscripted bottle of the 10yr in my cabinet. A true blessing!

Foursquare is my favorite spiced rum!

Now you just need some cou cou and flying fish!!!

Is Foursquare still widely available in Canada?

Did a little shopping on my way back through Michigan, picked up:
  • Mt. Gay XO
  • ED 5
  • ED 15
  • Cruzan SB (older stlye with the white label)
  • Cruzan Black Strap (older styling)
  • 2 bottles of Cruzan 151 (one of which is the 2 year old 151)
  • Pyrat Pistol

I also saw 3 more bottles of Foursquare, but at $21 apiece, decided to pass. The owner said no one else has shown interest, so I can always go back for them later.

Not in Ontario, that I'm aware of anyway.

I was going to bring a bottle back (dutyfree) but the wife likes the Anjeo tequila and here in Barbados it's $50 at the airport duty free. In the LCBO it's $100, and in Mexico $75!!!!! (go figure). So it's 1 bottle of the Abby 12 and 2 tequilas going home. Last time I tried to bring a 4th home my son piped up to the customs officers question about liquor "what about the bottles in the luggage". That landed us in the wrong customs line and got us searched, ugh. I still got through the extra bottle no charge! Still it's not something I want a repeat of.

Happy New Year!
