Kirkland Spiced Rum
I saw Kirkland Signature Spiced Rum at my local costco yesterday. I think it said it was from St Croix so I assume Cruzan is making it for them. Anyone know for sure? I didn't grab a bottle yet to try it out but I sure will, just have to drain one that I have in my cabinet to make room

The would be the Cruzan distillery but it probably isn't the same quality as the rum bottled under the Cruzan label.
Like a lot of the larger distilleries, Cruzan sells bulk rum to bottlers around the country and the world.

I ran into this Rum @ Costco as well. Says it is made from the 1st pressing of pure virgin sugar cane (not molasses) and is distilled 5 times before natural flavorings and caramel coloring is added. No statements of any cask time or other information given. @ $15, it seems worth a try as a cheap mixer at least.

Kirkland Spiced Rum
I am not a rum expert, but I do know what I like and have had a number of spiced rums (including Cruzan-very good stuff!). I recently joined Costco and immediately spotted the modestly priced rum in question. I could not resist giving it a try. After asking, the clerk told me it was essentially a replacement for the previously carried Sailor Jerry. I can only hope they bring back Sailor Jerry - this stuff is simply awful. My recommendation-pass up this low priced offering. It's not worth the low price.

I'll have to disagree with Steve here. @ $15 for a 1.75L bottle, my expectations of this Rum were not great..... but I was open to giving it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. @ 92 proof, I was expecting a harsh entry. However, I found this rum to actually be sipable,... although it will not replace any of my favorites reserved for this purpose. But it will definitely be my new go-to-rum for mixing. It is fairly balanced overall, not being overly laden with Vanilla..... although it is admittedly the dominant spice in the profile. But not overwhelmingly so.
So if you have access to this rum, I have to recommend at least giving it a try and deciding for yourself.

I confess I was too hasty in my above post. Don't know what was up with my taster, but after a second and then a third indulgence I find I must apologize for my initial review. I concur with the review offered by SeldomSeen above.

I agree with the conclusion here, the Kirkland surprised me for its price. A sipping rum it is not, but for some rum and cokes on the boat and as a "guest" rum, it serves its purpose nicely.

Costco
This is what I found about the Kirkland rum.
The Kirkland St. Croix Island spiced rum is made by Jim Beam Brands Company. The company is located at 526 Happy Hollow Road Clermont, KY. It also manufactures 'Costco's Kirkland Signature Bourbon'.
