I tend to drink dark aged rums in the winter and slide toward blanc rhums in the summer !!!! Not sure why but a ti punch in July is heaven but the other 11 months are OK also CHEERS !!!

I have to agree with you mac, even in the winter there's something about a ti punch when it's cold outside. In the summer I like to add some ice which I tend to omit when it's cold outside.

A Punch Vieux is a nice touch in the winter, using an amber or darker rhum agricole.

Or a rhum vieux old fashioned. I keep a small bottle of Vya vermouth around for Manhattans another of my favorites. The large bottles don't keep very long and for only a few drinks this is the small bottles are the way to go.

I keep the vermouth for Manhattans.
Rum Old Fashioned - 3 dashes bitters
- 1 tsp water
- 1 sugar cube
- 1 oz La Favorite Vieux
- 1 slice orange
- 1 maraschino cherry

oh, got it wrong, sorry.
yes, this is my old fashioned, too. but without the cherry - it looks nice, but it is much to sweet for me (heard of a recipe to make your own by soaking dry cherries in brandy or luxardo - should try that some day...)

but you don`t do your manhattans with rum, do you?
well, however, i am european and have never tried Vya - in about three weeks i will ask for it in my manhatten at the flatiron lounge where i will definitely go during my 3 days in ny.

Spring it could be Mai-Tais, but Summer means Pina Coladas!
Lots of choices, Dark-N-Stormy is my go to drink.
