I am sitting here reading this while sipping on a glass or Bacardi Solera....pretty good especially for the price point (around $15 in my neck of the woods)

Pyrat "Pistol". Yes that's cheating because it comes in a 375ml or something, but hey I like it. Beverages or Else had "Buy one get the second one for $.05" so I stocked up. Sometimes Pyrat XO for $19.99... in which case I stock up.

But hands down best bang for the buck sipper would have to be Cruzan Black Strap. It's worth the purchase just to stuff your nose in a glass and sniff.

...now I have myself feeling homesick.

I just tasted the El Dorado 5 yr. for the first time last night. I am generally partial to sweet Rums for sipping and I thought it was a very good pour for sipping and should work well for mixing.

At $11 a bottle it strikes me as a tremendous bargain. I can't think of anything else near that price point I would call a good sipper. Possible exception of Cruzan Diamond if you found it on sale - but I understand it is being phased out.

Here in Quebec/Ontario I would say Gosling's Black Seal, Angostura 1919 and Havana Club 7 years are the best deals.

I've never bought the Pyrat Pistol; is it the same rum than XO in a smaller bottle or is it different?

Different, from what I remember sweeter and more caramel. It was one of my first rums bought for sipping. I was pleased and decided to try Pyrat XO... then the slippery slope of buying more rums. I guess it kinda got lost in the shuffle as I have three un-opened bottles at home waiting for my return from China.

It was good enough for me switch from single malt scotch to rum!
