To be clear, are you asking if any of us specifically have tried whichever brand it is that Wal-Mart now carries? Or do you mean have any of used any 'Demerera Sugar' for syrups/cocktails etc.
I definitely have used this variety for syrup. My feedback would be try making a small reasonable amount and test it yourself. If you want syrup that is neutral (sweet only) then this type of sugar probably isn't ideal as it does impart a flavor, not mention its hue.
