Have you tried La Favorite Vieux in place of the Clement VSOP?

Though I have heard of it, I've not seen it yet locally. I would gladly give it a roll if I come across it.

Last week, I went to my favorite bar and the owner told me that Destilerias Unidas was going to discontinue the Reserva (but not the Reserva Exclusiva).
I wasn't able to find anything about that on the web and I doubt this information is accurate. Has anybody heard or read about this?

Picked up a bottle of the Reserva after reviewing the threads here. Doesn't compare to the Exclusiva in flavor, complexity and smoothness. Not even close. I'm with J.J.West on this one and will reserve it as a mixer,..... although there are others I prefer as a mixer. The extra $10-12 bucks for the Exclusiva is well worth it for something to really savor.

Trying this for the first time right now. Just fine on it's own but I find a splash of water really helps it along. For me, the nose is a lot like a freshly opened box box of chocolate cherries. There's more to it then that but I can't figure it out right now which I suppose means there's some complexity here? Anyway, it tastes great and it's pretty smooth . This one will be replaced once gone. - Tremendous value.

Well like SeldomSeen said, it also is to me a mixer.. an expensive mixer. Next time I'm in Montreal though.. I'm getting the Excluvia.. can't really wait to try it.

I'm really eager now to sample the Exclusiva. Since it isn't available here in Ontario, I'll also have to look out for it elsewhere.

Well Chris, don't dump it down the drain or into a coke just yet. Like a few other Rums I've enjoyed or not enjoyed in the past, like a woman, my palate has reserved the right to change it's mind. Put it away and try it again in a year or two. Do the same with any Rum you didn't warm up too immediately for that matter. Your palate will also likely change it's mind about one or more of them down the road.

A friend of mine who knows I enjoy Rum, bought a bottle of the Reserva for me as a gift a few months back. Trying not to look disappointed, I poured us a couple of glasses on the rocks. Man, one sip and there was another Rum on my list I have to eat crow about. I'm now enjoying the Reserva as a regular sipper in my galley.....

Damn it's good to have friends!

Well you're right SeldomSeen as over the year I warmed up to the El Dorado 12 and I don't find it as bad as I remembered.

I haven't poured down anything down the drain yet.. but like the El Dorado 12, I had made many rum and cokes with it just to get rid of the liquid.. now there's maybe 4 oz. of it left and I'm holding on to it till I find something as good in the same price range or cheaper as so far Zacapa 23 is my winner.. very costly winner.

I badly want to try this but I just can't justify the 80 bucks right now.
