Today I purchased and Tasted Owney's NYC original Rum. I was a skeptic of this rum due to no aging and its price. I am no longer a skeptic after today. An excellent bottle I highly recommend if you can find one.

Let me know what you think. I found it a very hard rum to review!

Owney's seems like a Rhum Agricole to me, very grassy and a bit harsh. had some after a Brugal 1888, which was much smoother.

I thought it was complex enough. The fruits reminded me of dried stone fruit, like plums or something similar. The only thing I really didn't like was the afterburn, which felt a little like mild indigestion to me. It's available here, surprisingly, but quite expensive (1,500TWD).

I can get Zacapa 23 here for cheaper, but I might consider EH5 for Hot Buttered Rum come winter.

I'm going to revisit it soon as I don't think one session did it justice.

Most recently I picked and ordered a few bottles recently after some research.

My first find was Denizen aged white rum. This is a rum blended in Holland. Its a blend of the finest aged rums from the famed Angostura distillery in Trinidad aged up to 7 years. It is then blended with a mix of 15 pot still rums from Jamaica. The color is filtered out. This rum really packs a punch of flavor. At the price point of 14.00 a bottle I paid this is an easy sipper full of flavor. This rum is touted as being what rum tasted like before the last 40 years with the focus on lighter rums. Its crazy how such a high quality rum is priced so low. Granted it will be higher online I went to a discount store that had it per their website surprisingly.

The next few I ordered or got at a store that I have not tasted yet.

Facundo Exquisito Rum - Blended Aged rums 7-23 years then aged in a sherry cask for no less than 1 month. From the Bacardi owners private stocks limited availability - 100.00

Plantation Guadeloupe 1998 Rhum Agricole - single cask Tokaji and Cognac finish - a 1998 Guadeloupe Rhum Agricole. "This rum started its maturation in the islands and then transitioned to France, spending its last years aging and being finished in the cellars of the Cognac house Pierre Ferrand. This single cask expression is actually finished in two different casks before being married together, a Cognac cask and the more unusual choice of a sweet Tokaji wine cask. " - 80.00

This rum had a limited run of 450 bottles and was chosen by a liquor store from a cask tasting. I was lucky to snag one of the few remaining.

I also ordered

Denizen Merchant's Reserve 8 year Rum

Lost Spirits Distillery Navy Style Rum 68%

Had two holiday in quick succession recently so I've had chance to get into the Duty Free's. I'd like to point out that the only rum's available that I didn't buy were the one's that I wasn't permitted to buy due to EU legislation etc. The choice isn't brilliant!

So from the duty free

Bacardi Gran Reserva Maestro de Ron (White sipping rum only available at the moment in Duty Free)

Bacardi Reserva (3 bottles)

Bacardi 8

Pyrat XO (700ml bottle in UK 750ml bottle in Cyprus Duty Free)

Captain Morgan Jamaica Rum (I know solely for a review) and Black Spiced

Ron Zacapa 23

Havana Club Selecion de Maestro (formerly Barrel proof)

And whilst out and about I picked up 3 bottle of Croatian Domaci Rum

Lemon Hart White Rum

Bacardi Black

Glen's Dark Rum

Black Head Rum

Cabo Bay

Basically anything I could get my hands on!
