What do you think of the Motu? That's what I've been having for the last few nights.

Chairman's reserve.

I wanted to find something to start me off on my discovery tour of rum, but wanted to get it locally rather than mail order.

For those in the UK it's on special offer at £16 in Sainsburys at the moment - a bargain!

Abuelo 12, Zafra Master Reserve, and 2 local ones, Bayou Select, and Acadiana's Own Black and Gold Single Harvest Blend.

Haven't tried the Abuelo yet. The Zafra is really good, reminds me of MGXO.

The Bayou Select is on the right path, but needs a few more years in the barrel.

Acadiana's Own- This is good, but somewhat young I'd guess. No age statement though.

I think for the price it is a good deal. I have not spent a lot of time with it. I had one quick taste the day I bought it and have not had a chance to get back to it. My impression was it tasted very much like a pacific rum. I find rums from that area emphasis fruit over spice flavors. I don't remember any harshness or burn afterward so I'd consider it smooth. All in all for $20 I'd recommend buying it to anyone who runs across it.

I recently picked up a bottle of the Bayou Select and didn't care for it.

While my reaction was similar, I do think they are on a good heading.
