Default St Elizabeth Allspice Dram

Haus Alpenz is bringing an allspice dram to the US. Blended with pot still rum and allspice from Jamaica this 22.5%abv spirit will be sold in 375ml bottles and will initially be available in NY and MA.

In Jamaica allspice is commonly blended with rum to make Pimento Dram, but the decision was made to call this allspice to avoid the confusion between pimento and allspice.

Excellent news! I've been making my own pimento dram. I *think* it's good but so far have not had anything to compare it with.

Like many traditional island concoctions, pimento dram varies considerably with each blender claiming his/her recipe is the best/most authentic, etc. I do have confidence that this will be as authentic as can be made on a commercial scale. One thing in Eric Seed's favor is that this doesn't contain things like fresh lime which are notorious for working very well in punches, but cause a lot of problems when in a product which is shipped, stored, displayed and then consumed over a long time period.

I have a few samples of mixed punches from the islands that just didn't pass the shelf life test. A problem that Eric won't face with this blend of spice and rum.

It should be noted that in Jamaica pimiento or pimento doesn't refer to the red pepper most commonly found stuffed into olives, but rather allspice which got its name from the English who thought it combined the flavors of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg.

The Allspice Dram is now available for sale in New York and soon in DC and California. Other states to follow.

This sounds very tasty. I hope I get to try it if it shows up here.

A little update on the Allspice Dram.

- We'd received many requests to make the more economic 750ml size available for retail sale, and so now you should find a number of web retailers with both 375ml and 750ml sizes available.

- The recipe section on the Alpenz website now has a number of drink recipes collected back from bars/restaurants that have or had a Dram cocktail on the menu. Some you might recognize from the classic books, some are inventive or new.

Cheers,
Eric

Thanks Eric for the nice recipe section. Please expand the section for the Scarlet Ibis Rum as the single recipe offered, with Carpano Antica and Chartreuse Jaune, no less, hardly exhausts the possibilities for this excellent rum.

Looks like it's being distributed pretty widely now... Unfortunately, while it's distributed in Illinois, I can't find a retailer that carries it. Anyone know of any? Or, failing that, any Chicagoans have any interest in splitting a case (Binny's is willing to order, but only in full case lots)?
