All right, all right. I have not yet been led astray by recommendations from those on this forum, and I am positioned to follow yet another recommendation. Before I do, please allow me to ask for a little assistance. Since I won't be able to taste this rum before ordering, I would appreciate a few tasting descriptions.

The price is great, but I don't want to order a case of rum that doesn't fit the profile of the kind of rums I generally like. If it is an "iffy" situation, I will order one or two bottles. If it sounds great, I'll order a case plus and share with my friends who are also rum drinkers.

Again, I would appreciate a quick description/comparison/notes on the flavor profile of this rum. Thanks in advance for your help.

my notes on Captain Bligh Golden Rum by Sunset: sweet nose, spicy taste, bit of caramel, charred wood, warm smooth finish. I would not stock up on it heavily based on its rank among my favorites, however it's hard to come by, like trying to buy Coors beer east of the Mississippi back in the 70s.

I have a few clients in St. Vincent and make a point of bringing some back when visiting them and having them deliver some when they visit me once a year. I'm fond of the Very Strong Rum at 169 proof since that's so unusual and my mouth has never experienced anything like it.

Just received another bottle of Zacapa XO from a client coming to the Miami International Boat Show from the Turks And Caicos Islands this evening. It's great to have friends and associates in strategic locations.

I really enjoy this rum, I like the spiciness, and it is smooth. It is very hard to find, that is why I would purchase an extra 2 or 3 bottles. I am half way through one that someone brought back for me from St. Vincent. Would I buy a case? No.

Great. Thanks for the tasting notes and additional suggestions. I'll give it a shot with a couple of bottles. If I like it, I will have one more in reserve. If I do not, I will have something to share.

When I was sailing up and down the islands I would pick up a case when I'd visit the distillery. Invariably, I'd run out of Captain Bligh before I'd get back to St Vincent. While it wasn't on the top of my list of sipping rums, it was always near the top of my short list of mixing rums.

When I dream up a better job, I'm going to take it. In the meantime, the research continues.

Thumbs up St. Vincent Extra Gold

BevMo got their shipment and it's on the shelves of the stores in the San Francisco Bay area. I picked up a case and will use it in any drink calling for a gold rum. I'm glad to hear, if I understand correctly, that it lives on under the Captain Bligh moniker. What I really like is the strong character of its taste. It doesn't fade when mixed with lime or other fruit juices. It is not a sweet rum, so, it works well in drinks which call for a syrup.

Malcolm told me to talk to Ed who might have more intel on what was going with the rum. Ed was nice enough let me know that Bevmo did in fact buy all 100 cases from Bock Spirit and Wines in SF Cal.

I have been waiting and watching Bevmo's site daily and all of a sudden today I see that Bevmo was down to 48 bottles, geese how they sell that many so fast? Well I got myself 5 bottles quick. I'm exhausted. I feel like a spy trying to get the information, lol!

Now if I can get my hands on a few bottles of Don Lorenzo Reserve Dark Rums. Any help?????

Rumdog46, there are actually more bottles of the St. Vincent Sunset Extra Gold at BevMo's. You will need to use the same search keyword, but change the "store" in the location menu. Then, you will see more bottles at over 8 other stores in the SF Bay area. I hope this helps.

Default St Vincent Sunset Extra Gold Rum

Thank you fellow rumdog,l ol! I did see that and ordered 4 more bottles for safe keeping. I do find this a great rum especially for it's low price. I like warming it just a little to take the chill off the rum. My preferred method is a nice candle and pour 2 fingers worth in a nice cocktail glass and just warm it ever so gentley over the flame for a few moments really brings out it's full flavor and intoxicating smell. Geese now I need to pour me one.
