DCSL Arrack
I saw Distilling Company of Sri Lanka Arrack. Is it any good? BTW, it's "Very Special Old Arrack".

As far as i`ve read this is considered a very good Arrak which is supposed to have aromas of Coconut, vanilla and chocolate. Go get it..
The difference between Batavia Arrak and VSOA is that VSOA is made from distilled Palm Wine while the Batavia is distilled from fermented Sugar Cane, started with addition of fermented red rice.
So its a different Arrak, i wouldn`t mind trying it, but not to make Swedish Punsch, to that is needed Batavia.

Hi, AC, it is at Vendrome Liquor on Yorba Linda Blvd, just 2 blocks off the 57 on the right hand side in a little strip mall. They have abouit 12 bottles.

I tried this a while ago, and it's interesting as a curiousity, but not much else. The flavor has absolutely nothing in common with Batavia Arrack and very little similarity to rum. More similar to a vaguely tropical tasting unaged whiskey or brandy.
I do think it is a bit funny that they call it, "Pure Distilled Coconut Spirit," yet my bottle notes "Ingredients: Water, Coconut Spirits, Caramel, Sugar."

I'm surprised that Pure Distilled Coconut Spirit got by the friendly folks at the Certificate of Label Approval desk at the TTB. The word Pure carries a lot of baggage.

Uh, it didn't get by the TTB in that sense, since I actually got the bottle in a trade with a friendly co-conspiritor in Canada. It is interesting to hear that it is now available in the US.

I made punch with it once and I think tried it in a couple drinks. Don't remember exactly what. The next time I checked the bottle it smelled sour and off, so I dumped it.
