Cockspur. One of the new ones showing up in the Whitehorse liquor store. Its got a real bite to it, but it smells good and tastes good. I like it.

I just picked up a bottle of XM 10 Year Old Rum. I saw The Lone Caner talk about it once and was intrigued.
It's a little known rum from Guyana that's not produced by Demerara Distillers
I'm actually fairly impressed with it since it reminds me of a drier El Dorado 12 Year Old Rum. There's some dried fruit and brown sugar initially, and after a bit some specific notes of starfruit and caramelized banana.

It's a blend of rum from Barbados and Trinidad that's actually cheaper than a similarly aged offering from either of those countries!

This bottle cost me about the same as a Mount Gay Black Barrel, yet is is actually closer in age to Mount Gay XO!!!

Also, this rum clocked in at around half the price of Angostura 1919 and just a bit cheaper than Angostura 7 Year Old.

The only value for money I've ever experience like this before was getting extremely cheap Old Brigand Rum in Barbados this year.

Santiago de Cuba 12 year, produced and bottled in Santiago de Cuba. Sampled 3 other S de C's before settling on this one to bring home. Love it.
Santero 7 year Edicion Especial distilled and bottled in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba. Haven't opened it yet. 2 of my favourite Cubans recommended it, so I have certain expectations. I'll keep you posted.

At some point, I was all about the "smooth" rums. I now read that to mean sweetened rums.

I'm now enjoying a Wray and Nephew overproof rum. It's taking me awhile but I think I'm starting to understand and enjoy what others mean by funk.

"Smooth" doesn't necessarily mean sweetened. I used to be a fan of El Dorado rums, but most of them are now sweetened to such an extent that they could almost be liqueurs. The 3 year old white is an exception.

If you want to try a smooth unsweetened rum, I would suggest Mount Gay Extra Old.

Default Hampden distillery 'Golden Devil' 9yr

The Hampden 9yr called "kill devil" or 'golden devil' I suppose depending on the country of sale. This was amazing even neat without even a few drops of water. I will try and give it a proper review when I get more time.

Envious of those living in CA that get access to K&L.
