Well, it seems I'm likely going to Barbados in a couple of weeks. It's a family trip and I'm not sure I can work in a tour. I will however be loading up on some bottles to come back with... I'm hesitant to snag MGXO or Doorly's because they are widely available here (though I do enjoy them so.) Also is the 1703 really that much better/different than the MGXO?

Any rums I just can't leave Barbados without? Approx. cost USD?

Be sure to stop at Cave Shepherd Department Store in Bridgetown. When I went a few years ago they had R. L. Seale 10 yr old and Foursquare 1998 Vintage for excellent prices. They also had some collectible bottles--one "mature" Mount Gay commemorating 100 years for the dept. store in a great looking bottle(which I picked up) and a Doorly commemorating a well-known cricket star (which I didn't pick up). They also carried a number of other rums.

Across the street and a little ways down was another department store with a good selection.

Thanks... I've been there before but that was before I fell in love with rum... By "excellent prices", what do you mean (roughly.) - I also understand Doorly's now has a new 12YO? I might try to look for that.

The Foursquare was $20 and the Seale was about $25. I saw the Mount Gay 1703, but it was more than I wanted to spend--maybe around $75. Of course, this was a few years ago, and prices will likely be higher.

There was also a shop just off the cruise ship dock that had a good price on Zacapa XO that I picked up.

I believe Ed Hamilton also suggests checking out the large supermarkets, where they can have a good selection.

I leave on Tuesday! A rum that I haven't tried (there's just so many of them) that I may keep an eye out for is R.L. Seale 10 YO which I'm reading a lot of wonderful things about... and it looks to be incredibly well priced.

I'm just curious if anyone has any anecdotes with this one?

Rob L,

Check out this review of the Foursquare 1998, and you'll want to pick it up too:

Thanks guys...

@jrl915 Yeah, I saw that too and Foursquare 1998 is at the top of my list. It seems fairly well priced too though I'm curious how widely available it is...
