Default Dominican Rum Guide

Hello rum lovers,

After several months without a rum blog i realized i really need to start one again! So I started the Dominican Rum Guide.

Since i live in the DR i dont have it far from he sugarcane fields and the rum warehouses. I rate DR rum high on blind tastings .. I do appreciate Dominican rums a lot!

Would be great to hear your opinion on the rums!

The latest post i wrote is the evolution of the Sugarcane Mill. I got some rum books with nice drawing so i decided to put everything on one place and share the knowledge.

Do you have any interesting mill photos?

Enjoy!

Hi PK,

Nice work.

I've read in another post that you like the new Brugal 1888, but since you're my reference for Dominican rum, could you elaborate a bit?

I read somewhere that it was aged in sherry casks, like Dos Maderas PX, and I was a bit surprised. How do you compare it to the Extra Viejo and the Siglo de Oro?

Thanks.

The Brugal 1888 is one of my favorites.. It went through double aging first in american white oak and later in sherry casks used to age Jerez. When talking about notes you get caramel, dried fruits, sherry...in all Brugal rums you get a buttery feeling in the mouth. Very nice finish...imagine the beach in front of you

My suggestion: Enjoy it on the rocks you wont regret it.

The Extra Viejo is a blend up to 8 years and Siglo de Oro is a result of a double aging process but in the same barrel type. If you can get all of them (not joking) and do the testing you will see its quite amazing.

Let me know how it went!

Default Cayrum

Ever heard about Cayrum? Its a ginger-honey rum made in the Dominican Republic. I heard it has good positioning in Atlanta.

Interview: Todd Kane and Cayrum

I really liked that rum. What do you think?

Back from the DR. Punta Cana airport duty free is an absolute no go. There are two in the departure facility. One the duty free chain with no Dominican product but decent prices on Zacapa 23 and flour de cana 18. The other is domican products only and a complete rip off with prices twice what they where at even the hotel store. So sad. Don't remember that situation in Santa Domingo.
Didn't see Quorhum anywhere. Did pick up white and dark Punta Cana from Oliver and oliver but have not opened to date. If they make a bad dark rum in the DR I haven't found it yet. Consumed a years worth of Imperial and brugal at Paradisis.

Default What rum to take home?

Hello rum people,

I get emails asking me about "what rum should i take home" from your vacation in the DR. Here a list of bottles worth putting in your luggage.

What do you think? Any other recommendations?
