Default XM 10 Demerara

A question.
If xm is a demerara, then is it produced by the same demerara distillers that produces El dorado?

All (legally distilled) rum in Guyana is distilled by DDL at its Diamond distillery. DIH (D'Aguiar's Industries and Holdings) buy rum from DDL and age, blend and bottle it themselves - the end result being XM rum.

Are you sure? This article here shows many distilleries, type, and what DDL uses in each product http://www.rumgallery.com/el-dorado-12-year-old.html

Looks to me like its all the same company/country, just different stills.
Demerara is Demerara.

Default Demerara Distillers Limited

Card Player,

There used to be hundreds of distilleries in Guyana, each one with its own still. That number has gradually dwindled to just the one at Diamond, East Bank Demerara. The Diamond distillery does, however, have a number of stills, most of which used to be at other distilleries in both Demerara and Berbice. These include Albion, Port Mourant, Blairmont, Skeldon and Uitvlugt. Each still makes a different type of rum, and some or all of these are blended with each other to arrive at the finished products.

Incidentally, there are still sugar factories at Albion, Blairmont, Skeldon and Uitvlugt as well as at Rose Hall (East Canje), Wales, LBI and, of course, Diamond.

"Tiare" is an expert on Demerara rums and - if you ask her nicely - will be able to tell you which still produces which type of rum, and which of the rums are blended together to produce the various El Dorado products.

This subject has been discussed before on the forums, and you should be able to access all of these posts. Also, there is a link to Tiare's own website on the "rum gallery" webpage that you have a link to in your post.

Ok, therefore XM is a producer that buy Rum distilled by Demerara (El Dorado) and age, blend and bottle himself.
While El Dorado is the official brand of Demerara Distillers.
Is that right?

Banks DIH owns the brand XM...like how Diageo owns Johnnie Walker, the world's best selling scotch.

Here's the interesting part that I dug up stating....XM doesn't use any demerara rum at all....but purchase their unaged rum from the carribean.

http://www.rumgallery.com/banks-xm.html

DIH does age, blend and bottle the rum thereselves at their warehouse.

Very Interesting.

Do you think there is much difference between XM10 and El Dorado 12???

I love El Dorado but I never tasted XM 10.

Well...some of the ratings seemed good. The XM is sherry finished for 6months. I never had 2 different rums with an identical profile. Just buy it and take a chance
