- Zaya 12
- Pampero anniversario
- Flor de cana 18
- Santa Teresa 1796

And Teresa wins big time even if I know those rums are very different.

Had the chance to taste *Dos Maderas Luxus* a couple days ago. I was kind of curious AND suspiscious because of the price ( 200$ ). I have to say this rum is quite impressive and then read about it on therumproject. They say it might have additives. That wouldnt suprise me. You'll have to make your own opinion. But Still.... a wonderfull sipping rum. I'll buy it in the next months FOR SURE.

I bet you will enjoy it. It's become one of my favorites.

Coincidentally, I just finished drinking a Guadeloupe 98 Old Fashioned. I threw a dash of Fee Brothers Black Walnut Bitters in with the Angostura and I highly recommend it!

Cheers!

Abuelo Centuria and an indie called High Spirits Pieces Of Eight rum from Arizona U.S.A.. The Abuelo is superb but not sure its worth the 130 dollar tag (I've been debating whether to get a 2nd bottle to put away). The High Spirits is very interesting and tastes nothing like anything I've ever tasted....perhaps more Tequila-ish than rum but not bad at all. If I can find another bottle I'll pick it up

Let me know what do you think of Brugal 1888.
Someone told me that Brugal 1888 is good like Santa Teresa 1796.
But I bought a bottle of Brugal Extra Viejo and it's very bad.

Thanks.

Hey Chris, since you asked (and since I welcome any excuse to sip!), I bought another bottle of the Diplomatica Reserva Exclusiva to compare with the El Dorado 15, and wow, was my memory mistaken - these two are not very similar at all, save for the dark amber color. Here's the short version of my impressions:

D.R.E. -- This rum has the scent of vanilla, toffee, and toasted marshmallows. The overall aroma is a good foreshadowing of the flavor as well, as it is a very sweet rum. I frequently find myself thinking of it as a "dessert rum," and while it is delicious, I wouldn't want more than an ounce of this at a time.

E.D. 15 -- In contrast to the D.R.E., this one had an aroma of leather, faint mustiness, and pickles (I'm not kidding). The taste had an oaky bite to it, along with a slightly tangy vanilla flavor. While all of that may make it sound unappealing, it works in its own strange way, and I enjoyed it; in fact, I could have a couple glasses of this neat, as it is well-balanced and not too sweet.

Side note: I poured myself a small sample of my Appleton 20-year old at the end, and the E.D. 15 does share some similarities with that one -- a similar damp mustiness and hints of tanginess and leather. I wonder if that has more to do with aging in wood specifically, or simply the aging process itself.

Have not had the Brugal in a few days but its a nice drink for the $55 I paid. Locally it's near $90, and IMO it's not worth that.

The Ron Abuelo 12 is almost gone while the Brugal is 2/3's full.
