Rum & Cigars

Few things go together better than a glass of good rum and the right cigar, except maybe more rum.

Default Humidor Defiled!

For reasons of personal finance I have not been able to keep my cedar lined box humidor stocked for a couple of years. Agreeably, I am now in a position to restock it once more.

Imagine my horror, when I went to dig out said humidor, to find that it had been used as a storage device by a family member for dozens of gathered feathers (and the like) from countryside walks!

It looks and smells clean enough in there, but is this going to be a problem for me storing cigars in there now? Will there be nasties in there that could pose problem? I’m mainly worried that there might be mites or diseases that could be a problem.

I assume that trying to disinfect the interior of the humidor will be more harmful to future cigars than anything the feathers might have done.

Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I would wipe it with a damp cloth, then let it air out real good. I would then reline it with some pieces of cedar. Then put some tobacco leaves in it, preferably Cuban leaf. Any time a cigar shop has a roller come in, I make sure to grab some leaf for my humidor. Add your cigars and you should be fine. Do not use any disinfectant.
