$27 in Ontario, plus tax of course. Is the Goslings Old Estate available out west?

Your comment about tax is false. The prices you see at the LCBO include all taxation.

The Family Reserve Old Rum runs anywhere from 2-3X the price of the regular Black Seal in your local market. Expect to be at the high end of the range if your retailer is selling the boxed version and not simply the bottle.

I don't enjoy either as a sipper. The Black Seal has been a staple in my bar for years and the Old Rum has found its way into some premium cocktails.

Your right, tax is included in the LCBO. I'll look out for it, but hasn't made an appearance at my local outlets. May show up closer to Christmas, though ti seems a bit pricey for a cocktail mixer.

I sipped some Goslings Black Seal the other day, like Jamie76 mentionned to me concerning my "touchy palette" that I wouldn't like it.

Well he's right and I didn't like it but I'm glad I was able to try it without having to buy it.

Where is the line for when it's appropriate to defend trademark usage?

Goslings Black Seal is my favorite floater. Sometimes I make the drink, slurp the entire floater right off the top of the drink, and re-apply the Goslings. yum.

I brought the 151 & really like it in Dark & Stormys - I use 1 shot instead of the 2 you would use if it was normal proof.

In my mind a bottle of the 151 is worth nearly 2 of the normal but costs less - no brainer

Im of the opinion that Goslings were fine to defend their trademark.

Think of the Bacardi cocktail - they wanted customers to get Bacardi in a Bacardi Cocktail & stop bartenders substituting 'inferior liquor'.

Goslings 'made' the Dark & Stormy, they don't want you to substitute the liquor with another one (even if you prefer it).

Its a bit of a storm in a teacup really - if you ask for a Dark & Stormy in a bar, they'll cobble something together for you with or without Goslings.

At home you can do what you like - have a 'Dark & Sue Me' & smile
