Default Greetings from Toronto

Hello folks,

Been aware of this site for some time, but decided I'd register so that my appreciation for rum is now official.

Originally from the UK, I started on the usual suspects like Lamb's Navy and Captain Morgan, but I had a eureka moment a few years back in 2006 when I picked up a bottle of the 7 year old Flor De Cana from Cancun duty free. Since then never looked back.

I guess from my purchase history I suppose I like the lighter Caribbean amber rums (Havana Club 7, Flor de Cana and more recently, the Diplomatico Reserva from Venezuela). Have also noticed that the 7 year versions offer more value than their 5 year cousins in terms of smoothness and taste. The big downside for me is that living in Ontario we are held hostage to the whims and purchasing power of the LCBO liquor monopoly, and they've recently de-listed the 7 year old Flor de Cana and the Diplomatico will soon be de-listed as it's deemed 'seasonal'.

Welcome, neighbour. Sucks being a rum lover in this province, doesn't it? Expensive hobby here.

Welcome to the Ministry!

You are not the only one with feelings of ill will towards our coveted LCBO, and they wonder why we cross the border to make our purchases!!

I look above and see all the places I've lived; Toronto, Richmond Hill and where I live currently...Courtice. Small world. LCBO is expensive, like double what Americans are paying. Occasionally, there will be a "deal".
