New England - that's in the US

Where it all began in the colonies, rum is again becoming the spirit of choice. Have you seen anything on the shelves that shouldn't be missed by others.

Excellent tasting again! Even got to try a few rums that I've never had/don't have in my collection, which is pretty rare!

They were tasting Pyrat 1623!!!
Also had samples of Vizcaya 12 and 12 Cristal, both were excellent and I am hard pressed to say that about any white rum. ED3 and HC3 are both in that category. I am still searching for the elusive Diplomatico Platino, which I also hear is quite excellent. The cristal was very good, smooth, hint of sweetness - very drinkable neat with no harsh bite.

Also had Bacardi, Brugal, Goslings, Abuelo tastings and good conversations with the reps. A bunch of the newer loacl distillers were there as well offering tastings and insight into their products.

Kudos to Tony and Donnie and the entire staff at Kappys for facilitating another great tasting!!

Check 'em out when you get a chance - they have a great selection of rums and the more interest and support we give them, the more the selections will grow!!

Hi Krusty,

Did you try the 1623? I am still debating if it's worth paying 200$ for. I feel the XO is tasting worst and worst with time.

Yes, of course!! I always love the chance to try something that I have not had!

I have the old version of Pyrat Planter's Gold as well as have tried the XO. I agree, I do not like the XO much at all - too artificial orange flavor for me. BUT, I do like the older PG version and the 1623 was more like that, except much smoother, a little sweet, in short, great! A real treat! Worth $200+?? Up to you. Not for me, I do not think when there are sooo many quality rums out there for half and quarter of that price that are better, IMO.

I agree with you on the old Planter's Gold version vs the XO. On top of it, I've noticed changes within the XO version. It used to be blended in Anguilla (at least based on what's written on the bottle) and now it's seem to be blended in Guyana. A change that was not for the better. Either that or my taste is evolving into a classic style of rum.
