Botran changed the bottle (and the blend) about 2 years ago. The new bottle is more of a standard bar room bottle meant for exactly that purpose... to easily sit on the barshelf and to pour easily. Botran felt they were losing out on the bar sales because bartenders didn't like the tear drop shape which took up too much room and was hard to pour quickly.
As for the blend change, Botran added a port cask to the solera process to add a little sweetness. I like the old blend (a lot), but my sample of the new blend, (a 50 ml bottle) was much too small for me to form an accurate opinion on whether I felt the change was for the better.
I've not tried the new blend, but have to say I was a fan of the old one.
To me it was a notch about Zacapa. Dry spicy flavors. Still a sweet rum, but in a good way.
