Botran felt they were losing out on the bar sales because bartenders didn't like the tear drop shape which took up too much room and was hard to pour quickly.

As for the blend change, Botran added a port cask to the solera process to add a little sweetness. I like the old blend (a lot), but my sample of the new blend, (a 50 ml bottle) was much too small for me to form an accurate opinion on whether I felt the change was for the better.
I've not tried the new blend, but have to say I was a fan of the old one.

To me it was a notch about Zacapa. Dry spicy flavors. Still a sweet rum, but in a good way.

I reckon Doorly's has one of the best labels out there. Simple yet striking, and vaguely piratical. Can't beat that.

But Mt. Gay (before they went crazy and took the map of the label) and Appleton (great bottle shape) also deserve honorable mentions.

A classic clear bottle gets my vote. Old Sam, Goslings, Screech. Preferably with enough rum left in them to show off the colour.
