In my experience most of the soft fruits from here, and especially mango, papaya and passion fruit do not translate well into a commercially flavoured rum. I have not tasted Ricardo.
The best idea is to find fresh fruit or a good frozen puree, and blend your own concoction...Besides, It's fun, and you can take pride in the results!

Ricardo has very limited distribution outside the islands. You might try looking for Brinley Gold Mango Rum if you live in the eastern US.

Brinley Gold Mango Rum, the best mango rum that I have tasted! If fact, their flavored rums are all great.

I've seen the 267 Mango Rum in stores up in Illinois, but frankly I'm a little scared to try!!! Too much "stuff" floating around inside the bottle.

We haven't had any other flavored rums, but the Brinley Gold Mango has an excellent, true mango taste and is 72 proof, if memory serves.

Your memory does serve. YOu are correct.
I purchased some mango flavored soda today... can't wait to try it with a shot of rum when I get home.

I like Cruzan mango rum the best. I made a mojito the other night by mixing lots of mint with the juice of a lime, a pinch of bar sugar, a splash of Monin passion fruit syrup and a good measure of the rum. Top with club soda and it's a refreshing treat to ring in summer. If you had some fresh mango, I would chop a bit up and muddle it wit the mint.
I've tried Malibu and Parrot Bay mango rums, too, and they're OK for mixing, if a bit more cloying than the crisp, more natural flavor of the Cruzan.
I'm not a fan of blended drinks on the whole, but if it's really hot out and I have a group of friends over for the afternoon, I make this daiquiri, and it's always a crowd-pleaser: Blend plenty of ice, frozen strawberries (and maybe some frozen pineapple, too), passion fruit juice and mango rum.

I've tried several mango rums and believe Mount Gay Mango and Brinley Gold Mango to be the best.

The Mount Gay Mango is getting "86'd" so if you like it, get some. However, I've seen plenty of it on the shelves in most states I travel to. (Probably because it wasn't a big seller?)
I've not had the MG Mango, but their attempt at vanilla was not so good, I picked up a bottle on the cheap a little while ago on travels, and had a bit, and didn't even bother to bring the bottle home with me - left it in the hotel room!

We recently picked up a bottle of Brinley Gold Vanilla and found it to be well made like the Mango version, with excellent vanilla taste.

I picked up a bottle of Pango this weekend that I found at a local store on 'inventory reduction'... I have not quite got my hands wrapped around it yet... It has a really good aroma that has me salivating for a taste, but the flavor does not match the aroma I don't think. It seems like a good quality product (as the Barbencourt pedigree) but I am not sure what to think of it - it does not taste at all 'artificial' as some flavored rums do, so that is a huge plus, just not sure what to do with it. I bet it would be great in a mixed drink punch sort of concoction. What do you all do with it?

I find it goes well with a OJ or Pineapple juice and splash of club soda to cut down on the sweetness. Also mixes well with a Mai Tai

While being a moderate fan of Brinley Gold Mango Rum, mostly due to the ridiculous price I have to pay for it, I have had a few special moments with Paradise Mango Rum Liqueur by Destileria Limituaco&Co Inc. I ran in to this one when I was in the Philippines. Very nice to sip with an ice cube. At US$ 8/70cl it was a steal! My companion found it a little to soft and sweet, and added some soda, and a dash of Tanduay Rum.
Sadly I haven't seen this product for sale in Europe

Ron Ricardo rums come from the Bahamas and are owned by Todhunter Mitchell who have recently moved thier operations from Freeport to Nassau, to take advantage of the facilities at Commonwealth Breweries.
Like Ed says, pretty much hard to find outside of the Bahamas.
My wife supposedly has a case of thier rums coming down on Bahamasair for me this week of all thier flavoured rums and the Gold, Dark and White. So looking foward to re-visiting all thier rums.

We were pleasantly surprised recently by some of the Ron Ricardo flavored rums at the New Orleans Tasting Competition, especially the banana, which has a unique mature full bodied flavor.

Unfotunately, the case of Ron Ricardo rum has "disappeared" on its short, direct flight from Nassau to Providenciales, not once but twice!!! I guess this rum is really popular with baggage handlers. The person who sent it is trying hard to get a refund, so she can send it by the regular ship delivery of Shell Gas. It is a shame, because I was hoping to order a case of Cuban rums for my next delivery if this was successful.eek.gif

What odds would you lay that it will arrive un-molested by a crew of thirsty sailors? gzzg

Sorry i didn't see this earlier...
i know exactly what you mean Pango is a surprise-- a gorgeous aged rhum, lightly infused with the flavor of real pineapple, and real mango-- you just expect it to be sweet, or tangy-- but instead it tastes balanced with ephemeral spice and yum yum fruits-- i like this stuff.
A great drink i make with this (that i have posted elsewhere on the forum) is:
Same Sex Marriage
1 Shot Pango (Spiced Rhum)
1 Shot Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
Shake Vigorously with Ice
Strain into a cocktail glass with 2 Brandied cherries in the bottom and a splash of 'the juice' from said cherries
Top up with Sparkling wine.
Sip and savor the innuendos!

Not sure of my odds with this either, but as it hasn't cost me any money yet, it might be worth a try. My sister-in-law is trying it with some Kalik Beer and the new Sands Beer, with a few bottles of rum. So will wait to see if this works for her first. There appear to be a great deal of Cuban rums available in the Bahamas these days. Probably because there are direct flights to Cuba. Maybe they now have shipping routes aswell. I just wish we could get more Cuban rums here. The direct flights no longer exsist, only charter flights. I guess I could go via Jamaica instead.
