I'm not new to rum, but I prefer whiskey.
However I want to begin distilling my own rum in a foreign country as a business venture. I've been researching distillation and ingredients, and I think rum is the most profitable business to be in. It's also the business I'm likely to make many good friends through.

I guess what I'm asking is, what would you do if you had a rum company of your own? How would you set about marketing and producing your beverage?

Welcome to the forum. My first thought is that if you want to make money with a new rum distillery you're in the wrong business. If you want to make good rum and hope others will enjoy drinking your product as much as you enjoy making it, then you're on the right track.

buy a small distillery with a resident master distiller and blender. Making great rum is not easy, but neither is importing, distributing and marketing it either.

I would suggest taking a year or so working at a distillery, that way you can learn the processes. Anybody can ferment, distill, and age rums, but only experience can make a good rum.

I do know a lot of people that have rums made for them by foreign distillers made to their own specs, thats one route to take.

Personally, I have a lot of interest in this but no time, its my goal to meet up with the folks at Bluecoat Gin and learn as much as I can at their distillery. (They are the only distillers in Eastern PA)
