Good morning and hello, nice to meet you all,
It is wonderful to find this forum, I'm looking forward to learning more about rum. This year my interest has been peaked by first, reading History of the New World in 10 Cocktails (which I absolutely loved), and by a cruise to the Caribbean where I picked up 7 bottles of rum, and lucky enough, wasn't required to pay any duties. Of the rums I bought, Admiral Rooney from St. Lucia, Mount Gay Extra Old from Barbados, Pussers 15 yr old, Goslings Old Rum (from a Duty Free store) are my favorites. I also picked up Chairman's Reserve (St. Lucia), Pusser's younger version (only $10 from the store in Tortula), and English Harbor (Antigua).
Anyway, I am also a scotch, bourbon, and tequila enthusiast. Here's is what is puzzling me lately. With these three spirits there are clearly set sipping/tasting glasses. With bourbon and tequila, I've read some articles about Riedel working with industry representatives to create the "official" glasses. So what about the ideal rum sipping/tasting glass? Sure, you can drink rum from whatever glass you want, but is a certain shape of glass best, possibly a shape different from the glasses for other spirits? All the tasting information I've found on rum says to use some kind of wine glass. For all the internet searching I've done, I've yet to find an official glass. For all the glasses dedicated to a specific spirit, it seems like rum should not be left out. :confused:
