I stumbled across this site while trying to get some info on one of my new rums. This is great, I look forward to learning a great deal more about this wonderful beverage.

I'm in Vancouver, BC and just started really enjoying rum a couple of years ago. Grew up as a typical Canadian, beer and rye, but had my eyes opened on trip to the Dominican Republic. Fell in love with the rum, as it was so different than the rums I had previously consumed up here.

I started out with some of the Brugal and Barcello bar rums, and have enjoyed moving up a little bit in quality. The Matusalem 15 yr and Flor de Cana. It turns out I work with a guy from the Dominican, and his brother just brought me up a bottle of Brugal's Siglo De Oro:this is the prize of my meager collection right now.

So greetings to you all, and thanks for having me aboard.

Duff

Brugal's Siglo De Oro is a great rum to enjoy. Having a friend in DR is a wonderful thing. Having a friend in Haiti, a friend in Venezuela, a friend in Guatemala and a friend in Jamaica is great also.

Traveling to the islands can certainly open your eyes to great rums and, generally speaking, to the concept of living a less stressful, perhaps worry-free life.

Thanks for the kind welcome everyone. Now a question: I just found out a workmate is going to Haiti this weekend and my folks are going to Cuba soon. I placed orders for the following rums:

Haiti: Barbancourt Reserve Du Domain 15yr

Cuba: Havanna Club Barrel Proof (Blue Label)

Any feedback or comments on these rums?

Thanks,

Duff

Those two would be among my first choices also.

In Haiti, you may also find some hard-to-locate rums like some of the Jane Barbancourt brands or Labbe, which produces fine rums and specialty rums such as Coffee, Anisette, Coconut and Orange flavored rhums, and a line of rhum cremas flavored with Coconut, Rum Raisin, and Cocoa.

In Cuba, Maximo and Gran Reserva 15 from Havana Club are notable. One of my favorites has long been Havana Club 7.
