Hello everyone,
I have only just discovered this forum and it's like wandering into a crowd of like-minded people (or should that be "kindred spirits"?).
So it's not just me who likes rum, that much-maligned spirit that doesn't get the press it deserves across the globe.
Here in the UK we are getting more brands these days but you see the same half-dozen everywhere.
So, my everyday "house" rum is either Mount Gay Eclipse or Cockspur.
Nice easy, drinkable, but complex-flavoured rums nonetheless.
My own favourites, however, are from Martinique, Marie Galante, Guadeloupe and Haiti (yes, the cane juice rums) ... but if you try buying them here in the UK, it's not easy.
I even went on holiday to Martinique, visiting distilleries, trying rums and punches and had a great time.
At home I have about 70-80 different rums, some of which I am saving for some far-off "rainy day" or only drinking in a miserly way because I simply can't replace them.
I want to say thank you to Mr Hamilton for setting up this forum, I'm sure I'll be calling here quite frequently.
