After more than two years of anticipated launch dates, Tommy Bahama Rum is finally coming to a store near you, if you live in the US.
There is a white and dark version of this rum and to date I've only tried the white.
Made by the RL Seale company at the Foursquare Distillery in Barbados my expectations were higher than when I heard this rum was coming from some other producers.
The aroma was pleasant with a fair bit of coconut everywhere on the glass.
The initial taste was definitely coconut, better than some of the synthetic flavors we've come to accept as coconut. As the initial taste taste faded the body was hard to discern followed by a short finish of alcohol.
Judging by the push this brand is getting, 2 flavors x 3 bottle sizes = 6 shelf placements, it is going to have to preform well or it isn't going to last very long. But my guess is that it is going to be around longer than Trump Vodka.

I had an opportunity to taste both the white and gold rums today. I must say I was dissapointed. I found them both to be a bit harsh in the finish and rather "chemically" tasting. Not the quality one might expect from an up market product. IMHO

Recently, I was able to sample Tommy Bahama, too. I agree with the Sheriff. I was just not impressed. It turned out to be what I expected; a sub-par product with a designer label.
The dark rum was foul and while the white rum was more palatable, it certainly wasn't worth the price ($28). There are plenty of other, cheaper (and better) rums out there to use as a mix or to serve at home to acquaintances, neighbors, not that close friends and the like.

I tried TB this past weekend at a retirement party and was thoroughly unimpressed...I ended up being very glad that I had decided against just buying a bottle to try it, as for the $25+ they charge for it everywhere I've seen it, I can get much better rums.

I tried out the Tommy line-up at a rum tasting party hosted by one of the local bars. There was nothing in either of them that would make me want to buy a bottle. I don't think I even finished mine... just tasted, then poured it out for something else.

The guy who runs the local liquor store gave me a small sample bottle. All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't pay for it. ;)
