Has anyone tried the Malecon Esplendida? I've just ordered a bottle and can't find much info on it.
We've got the 25 year old which is a good Panamanian sipping rum, but wondered what the extra few pounds for the Esplendida will be buying us?

Sorry to side track but how do you view the line in general?

The Malecon is a wonderfully sweet sipper. No idea on the age, but it's quite rich and tobacco'ey and the only downside is quite a short finish - the bartenders here said 'a bit thin'. But we've said that about the other Panamanian rums we have here - the Plantation and the Malecon 25.
The Silver Seals can't be accused of being thin. The Long Pond 21 year old is quite light for a 21 year old rum, but you can taste the age - I'm assuming there has been no caramel - this looks like barrel colour. It has very little on the nose but tasting it the first impression is of a very naval character. Is the Long Pond a supplier to the Pussers and other naval rum blends? Punchy with a long sweet pleasant, woody finish. Looking forward to mixiing with this.
The 32 year old Demerara from Enmore is very different. Woody was certainly the over-riding characteristic - perhaps over-aged? Tastes very similar to the El Dorado Enmore Single Barrel but more rounded and pleasant. Doesn't taste 50% abv but has a long finish.

Thanks for sharing!
I've had my eye on a couple of Malecon (younger iterations though), but haven't had any experience with the brand.

I'm impressed with the many Guyana Rums I saw in London during the rum fest -- all quite interesting. Here in South Florida, we're luck to see El Dorado with regularity. It's time to pay a visit to Guyana and do the research.

With the exception of Plantations, Cadenheads, and Murray McDavids, there are no rums from either Panama or Guyana available in PA. I usually get them in NJ for myself, but my bar is absent with them.
Those rums that Paul got look interesting, that Enmore sounds intriguing. I, personally, am a fan of overaged rums. Perhaps I should just buy a piece of charred and oak and chew on it awhile...
