Oh my goodness Vern, after 50 posts on this forum I've become a "senior member" and am now hoping for a discount at IHOP.
Which flavored rum do you like on your pancakes?

On my pancakes, I'm undecided between Khukri, Cruzan Black Strap, Goslings Black Seal or Coruba.

Robert, why don`t you make 4 different pancakes and please give me the recipes for real American pancakes? do you in the US eat these for breakfast?

I usually just add a little rum to the syrup or honey. Most rums have a viscosity which is too light to stay on the pancake. But then some people like pancakes soaked in their rum, which isn't a bad thing.

I have never tried your type of pancakes with syrup and rum..but it sounds yummy to me. Here in sweden the pancakes are usually eaten with jam and whipped cream and never for breakfast.
I think my Jamaican black rum would be good for pancakes as it has such a thick molasses flavor. Should i add just the rum or the rum with syrup as well?
Besides..what kind a thread this has become, starting with Cruzan and then on to a wild sort of indiana Jones story (which was moved to Caribbean related topics) and now pancakes! but its all rum related..
I think that the Ypioca (sp) that I tried in Dan's workshop, if thickened somehow, would serve as an excellent topping for pancakes (although I much prefer waffles myself).

Here maybe some rum blending could be of good use, if a thinner rum is blended with a thicker..and maybe some syrup as well.
Dood, waffles are great! I love them with whipped cream and liquid pine honey..never yet tried adding rum but i certainly will. Question is, what rum would be good in waffles with whipped cream and honey?

As a child, my maternal grandmother in Gainesville, Florida made what I considered to be the finest pancakes in the world, smothered with fresh butter, whipped cream and Alaga cane syrup, a dark, rich, molasses-like substance that was not available in the stores in Miami. I craved this food-of-the-gods and looked forward with glee to any opportunity to enjoy the cane syrup on pancakes, or anything else.
This predisposition to rich, dark, thick cane substances still gives me a thrill, hence my urge to pour such substances on pancakes to this day.
I find it delightful to smell a large number of rums, often sharing the experience with those that do not drink, or do not drink rum, as an alternate method of appreciating fine rums. In doing so, some rums plead with me to be poured over pancakes.
My paternal grandmother made excellent rum balls and rum cakes. (Am I in therapy right now?) My parents put a strict limit on my intake of these goodies, but grandmother was decidedly more liberal in her oversight when the parental units were not in close range. I don't recall being drunk, but do associate such treasures with having great fun and feeling good.
Soaking wheat flour based cooked batters with cane-based liquids remains one of life's simple pleasures in my book.

I wonder if the Black Jamaican and the Cruzan Black Strap have similar flavors..
