Hello everyone. I'm am new to Rums since the fall of 2007. I did not know Rums could be so tasty on their own. I'll admit I was a Single Malt snob. My first experience with a premium rum was the Flor De Cana 15yo which a freind brought over to accompany some fine Cuban cigars (RASS, Ramon Allones Specially Select). Not only was the pairing excellent, the smoothness and flavour of the rum totally surprised me.
I have since bought the 18yo Flor De Cana, the Pyrat XO Reserve and the El Dorado 21yo which is currently my favourite. Unfortunately, the LCBO (Licquor Control Board of Ontario) who are the largest single buyer of wines and spirits in the world have discontinued the Pyrat XO Reserve and the El Dorado 21yo from their stores; what a shame. I'll have to drive down to Buffalo for a better selection.
I'm off to Cuba (Varadero) in the Spring and this will be my first time looking for Rums (as well as the usual cigars). I've tried the Havana Club Legendario over Christmas but I believe it is more of a Rum Licquor (at about 30% alcohol/60% proof). If anyone knows of good sipping Rums from Cuba please let me know.

Havana Club 7 is good and Havana Club 15 year is probably good too. Havana Club 7 is a bit drier than most rums so it might be good rum for somene who is used to the drier scotch. You can read my review of Havana Club 7 here. (http://www.refinedvices.com/content/view/28/37/) I don't think you will be having any problems finding HC from Cuba.

Welcome, Don. Glad to have you. I think you will enjoy all of the Havana Club rums, and the Anejo 3 is a white/straw colored rum that makes incredible Mojitos and Daquiris.
Ron Liberacion is another you may want to try.
Also, on the Rum Rumours form. I listed some new Cuban releases that you might like to find.

I used to love the Matusalem Gran Reserva from Cuba, lately I've been enjoying Havana Club Anejo Reserva when I can get it.

I drove out to St. Catharines LCBO yesterday and bought the last bottle of Pyrat XO that was left in Ontario. I have not had it before, but based on what I have read from many sources it should be fantastic!
