New Year's Eve is almost upon us again. Time flies when you're having as much fun as I am. And tomorrow I'll be fixing some cocktails for a few friends. Of course there will be some champagne on ice and though I don't consider myself a mixologist I'm going to try to duplicate the efforts of some of those who've served me some great drinks during the course of the last year.

One drink that comes to mind was a combination of champagne, cognac and a little sugar cane syrup, garnished with a candied cherry. I don't have much cognac at present, so I'll substitute some aged rum, which will probably be better than the cognac I was served. It's always interesting to introduce people who don't drink rum to cocktails they enjoy but would never make on their own.

My wife and I are taking a selection of rums with us to her parents' house for New Years. She has a whole list of cocktails she wants to try...I'll have to see if I can find it.

I was planning on just enjoying some Barcelo Imperial, maybe some Zaya and gingers with a float of bitters and a small twist of lime.

Tiki drinks in Stockholm, that sounds like a lot better than the Aquavit drinks my Swedish friends always want me to try in the Caribbean.

Be lucky you haven't experienced the "black horror" a finn would offer you. Although some people find it quite good and some people have been known to vomit out of an open window after a shot.

Aquavit..blaah!..

Luckily for me..Stockholm has, according what i`ve read, the only true Tiki Bar in Europe, The Tiki Room. True because they only use original recipes from the 40s to the 60s in their Tiki drinks. Their Trader Vics Mai Tai is really good..it lets the rum flavors come through real nicely.
I also like the tapa on the walls.

First a Ti Punch, then I think I will try the Proseco cocktail Ed mentioned, then some of my best aged agricole to finish the night, with a delicious cigar.
(good food in between, of course).
Tiki drinks in Sweden!! I love it. I can understand this, it makes us think of the warm summer days and cool ocean breezes!!
Happy New Year to all!!

Last night at Rum Bar, we sold out to a crowd featuring Tommy Bahama rums (on their dime) with Bahama Mamas, Egg Nog, Rum Punches, and other cocktails. What did everybody drink last night at 'Rum' Bar? Vodka... We about ran out of vodka.

I went to my in-laws with a bottle of Ron Barcelo Imperial to sip on and to share with a few family members that have expressed an interest in good rums.

I was very pleasantly surprised to receive, as part of my Christmas gift from my in-laws, 2 bottles of One Barrel...so I alternated between the Barcelo and the One Barrel for the evening until the sweetness finally got to me and I shifted to Appleton Estate V/X and ginger.

A somewhat sweet, possibly flavored rum with a mild vanilla flavor. This rum can be sipped, is good on the rocks. For the type of rum that it is, it is very good.

I find One Barrel to be buttery, with strong notes of caramel. It's a good sipper, although I admit that I doubt I could finish more than a few ounces before needing to change things up with a different spirit. It's very rich.
