J. Bally

While visiting St. Maarten, I found a bottle of J. Bally Rhum Vieux Agricole. I didn't pick up the bottle (weight concerns)...but I'm still intrigued and wondering if anyone has ever tried any.

Bally was produced at the Bally distillery in Carbet, Martinique until 1989. The bottle in your picture is a special bottle aged 7 years, Bally was usually aged six years according to a representative a few years after the distillery closed.

That rhum agricole vieux has an entry full of dark fruit, the body has some spice that yields to a smoky oak and spice finish.

I tasted this rhum on St Barts last year, and it was very good, but I chose the Bally 1998, as I liked it more, and there was only a slight difference in price. I would purchase a bottle of this rhum without question. I, too, had to make choices due to space.

Hmm...well, I'll admit that I'm a little bummed that I didn't pick it up. If I hadn't already had the bottle of Appleton Reserve sitting in my bag, I probably would have picked up the Bally.

That's OK, I picked the Brugal over the Bally...now it just has to deliver - which I'm sure it will. ;)

Many years ago, 1984 I think, I purchased several bottles of J Bally 1982 in St Martin. Really brings back great memories of that vacation.
For some reason, when I was in St Martin 3 years ago, I failed to purchase any rum agricole :(

Still have 1 full bottle of that J Bally 1982 and an opened one as well ;)

BTW, I was in the DR this summer and never saw that bottle of Brugal.

Ron Siglo de Oro or Siglo de Soro, is only sold in a few places on the island, cruise ship docks are a relatively new place. I only found a bottle after many trips to the DR, but have never seen it anywhere but in the DR.
