Tonight I am comparison tasting several clear rums: Cartavio 1929, Cruzan Lt., Green Island, Bougainville Rhum Light, Tropic Isle Palms, Mon Plaisir (United Spirits), L'Amitie(Gray's ) , and Angostura 3 yr., (along with my latest Temptryst rum batch [which will not be rated]). {Several of these are from Mauritius.}

All this grouping probably should rank as superior rums.

Relative ranking:
Cartavio
Green Island
Bougainville
Mon Plaisir
Cruzan
L'Amitie
Palms

Hi, Angelsword;
I have what might be a 'duh' question, but here goes...
What is the best method for conducting a comparison tasting of rums?
I have several different rums and would like to see how they hold up against each other. What's the best method of preparing the rums? What is the best way to cleanse the palate between sips?
Thanks!

I suppose that i really should post a little more info on some of the more obscure rums I tried in this tasting.

1) Cartavio 1929, Ron Blanco Superior, Aruba Rum Freezone Co.
2) Green Island, Superior Light Rum, International Distillers Mauritius (This is essentially the same product as Starr African Rum from the same maker. They also produce White Diamond Rum and Flambouyant Aged Rum. )
3) Rhum Bougainville de l'ile Maurice, Rhum Light, E. C. Oxenham & Cy Ltd. (They produce 4 rums under the Bougainville label, and 2 under the Fegate label.)
4) Rum Mon Plaisir, UNited Spirits Producers Ltd. Mauritius. (The also produce Cascavelle Rhum Cuvee Speciale and Blue Bay B.)
5) Cruzan Light. You already know this one but it serves in the ranking as a benchmark.
6) L' Amitie. Gray's & Co. Ltd, Mauritius ( These excellent folks produce a wide variety of rums including: New Grove, Old Mill, Big Jack, Mainstay, Tropical, De Luxe, 7 Seas, and Rhum de L'isle de France.)
7) Palms... whatever...
