Hello all!

I was just enjoying the last bits of a bottle of Havana Club Anejo 7 year old and thought I might find out if there was something out there that I might find to replace this irreplaceble bottle. I was never much of a rum drinker until I tasted the "real" stuff. I had a chance to go to Havana (legally) a couple of years ago and got turned on to ron. I have since tried several "good" rums, but can't find anything I like as much as the Havana Club. Any suggestions?

My only suggestion is that you keep trying new rums! :D

"Some" of the rums from the Dominican Republic are similar to "some" of the Cuban rums. Brugal Exta Anejo bought in the Dominican Republic is one example. It's not surprising that Dominican Republic rums mimic some Cuban rums, or that modern Cuban rums mimic rums made today in the Dominican Republic, because these islands are geographically neighbors and historically families have moved between neighboring islands.

The Abuelo rums from Panama also have a Cuban heritage. It is also important to understand that some rum marketers will do anything to make you think you are buying Cuban rum by liberally using the name Cuba on the bottle, label, box and website.
