I just received word yesterday that I'll be receiving the El Dorado Spiced Rum in a couple of days, and I'm very excited about it!
If this is true to El Dorado form, I'm certain that I won't be disappointed.
I'll try to post a photo and a brief review after I receive it and get to taste it.

Simply a matter of geography, I'm sure, Forrest :) El Dorado, at least on the east coast of the U.S.A., comes into the country via New Jersey, so I ought to get it at least 3 hours before you get it on the west coast, right? party1.gif

Please keep us posted on the taste. ED is widely available here and I'm sure I could get the province to get me some if requested.
Cheers!

Pehaps, one of the largest Guyanese communities outside of Guyana is in Toronto, and the guy running the show up there for ED is a gentleman named Komal Samaroo. He is a very friendly fellow that I am sure would take the time to share his knowledge of his spirits with all who care to listen and taste.

I'm a bit confused. I tried searching the ED Spiced and found a few
images, none which look like the "ship label" on the ED website (http://www.theeldoradorum.com/speciality-products/spiced-rum). Just
how many ED Spiced rums are there?

The one with the "ship label" must be the new one, as it's the first time that I've seen it. I don't know, however, if the new one is the same rum as the "old" one, but just with a different label. I haven't tried El Dorado spiced for several years, as the last time I bought a bottle I wasn't over impressed with it.
DDL seem to change their labels quite often - for a long time their standard 5 year old had one label in Britain and a different label in Guyana. They also make several products for the Guyanese domestic market which you won't find anywhere else in the world, and certainly not on their website. Their cheapest rum - for the domestic market - is a straw coloured liquid which sells for under £2 (US$3) a bottle, although it tastes better than that price tag would suggest.

I'm betting the US version will be what we see on the El Dorado website with the ship.
Interestingly enough if you look closely at the Drinkupny "Cuba Libre" spiced rum, the label at the top mentions www.cubalibrerestaurant.com
This website refers to a growing chain of restaurant/bars which have "teamed up" with El Dorado to serve up this new line of El Dorado rums.

Well, the Cuba Libre chain has contracted with DDL to have their own label of rums, but as Ed has pointed out, they aren't identical to the El Dorado bottlings, though they may be close.
maybe they were late in getting the memo that everyone is doing a spiced rum this year and sent in a few, it like a theme party

I haven't had the El Dorado Spice Rum but the Cuba Libre spiced rum was selected by the restaurant, not El Dorado. To each his own.

Okay! Just got to try the El Dorado Spiced Rum, and it's perfectly lovely. It's got balance.
For the exact same money as Captain Morgan, you can get a better spiced rum at a higher, and more traditional, proof (80-pf). I hate paying for more water in my spirits, don't you?

Sounds like something worth trying. I am always amazed when liquor stores are selling Captain Morgan (I guess the price set by the company) for anywhere between $ and $6 more than rums that I know are better quality and overall better rum. For example, I just picked up the new Cruzan 9 for $19.99, Captain Morgan was $26.99.

I can tell you that El Dorado Spiced Rum goes very well with Mexican Coca-Cola (made with cane sugar, not HFCS) and lime juice glass.gif
Color me unsurprised :)

Lucky people in New Brunswick. I'd be interested in reading your take on this new spiced rum.
