What about a forum where members can trade or sell/buy from other members? Just a thought.

Under the main titles in bold above, you'll see MoR-Bay. Is this what you were thinking of?

Something similar, but not really an auction. Say someone had a bottle they wanted to either trade for something else, or sell...that is more along the lines I was thinking. It wouldn't have to be set up through the site, rather someone could state they have X-rum they would like to trade for Y-Rum. People could contact them offsite, etc.

I don't think MoR Bay has ever been used...maybe a revamp to something more along those lines would help.

MoR Bay has only been used once. It's there to use if anyone wants to do so. There are a lot of regulations concerning alcohol so transactions can only be for the bottles and not the contents.

I went to MoR-Bay. I pressed sell. I was told I needed a sellers account and to click the link. When I clicked to setup a sellers account, I got the following message: There are currently no public usergroups available for you to join.
Nothing else to click, no seller account setup. Any suggestions?

Sorry I missed your post Bluehammer. Since I've installed some forum spam plugins the usergroup permissions were affected. Please try again and let me know via pm if you have any more problems.

Is the MoR Bay still available? I may not be looking in the correct location, but can't find it.
I'm actually in the same boat, have one or two rums I would love to trade rather than sell.

It looks like the MoR-Bay link has disappeared during the last update. I'll take a look and see what I can do to reinstall that feature of this site.

Thanks Ed, I'm sure guilty of picking up extra bottles when opportunity knocks with a good price. Given how many rums are out there to experience I would love the opportunity to trade with other members on ministry of rum.

I buy on ebay regularly and would love to have a trading option as well. My collection has now reach over 400 and if i keep buying i'll end up loosing halve to my a rebelling spouse.

I've added an Auctions (http://www.ministryofrum.com/forums/vbay.php) link above. I was going to label that Rum Auctions but since I would like to make this available to other things like flasks, and this is actually for bottles and not the contents, it will remain Auctions until I see a better option.

I can get a link for a sellers account. When I use it I get another page to join the usergroup. Clicking that button, I get "This does not appear to be a public user group."

Seems there is a conflict with the auction section of this site. I've added you to the usergroup, let me know if you can access this now.

Hi Jamie, For whatever reason the auction site has not worked. I'm in the market for trades and some sales as well. My collection is now nearing 700 bottles with many duplicates. stay in touch.

I'm not sure if the problem is a lack of interest in the rum auction section of this forum or if there is a problem with the software since I upgraded to PHP5.
Let me know your thoughts and I'll see what I can do to make this work better for all of the members.

I thought there was another thread here about the difficulty and legality of shipping rum if you are not a dealer. Does this issue go out the window if selling the bottle with the contents being incidental? Could this be holding back interest?

Legally, no. eBay's policy on selling alcohol states that the contents must be incidental, and the value is derived from the collectability of the bottle itself. However, this gives you no protection under the law.

Just because eBay does something doesn't make it legal or illegal. Try explaining your innocence for shipping alcohol over state lines without the proper licenses to a Federal investigator whose job is to prosecute someone, anyone, for breaking his law, or his boss's interpretation of his law.

Hello Ed,
Thank you for your efforts with the auction site. I am going to make a determined effort to both buy and sell on the site. I still feel as a collector that a trade is the optimal transaction however and would presumably carry less risk, if in fact there is a risk.

Don't get me wrong, I am all in favor of consulting adults doing what consenting adults do but as someone with a federal license to import and distribute alcohol I can't afford to break the laws or enable others to do so.
