I recently returned from Barbados after a whirlwind 3 days visiting and learning as much as I could about the "Home of Rum". I still haven't finished a page on my site but should very soon.
I spend 2 days with the great folks at Mount Gay/Remy Martin who gave me a great time visiting the Mount Gay Blending and Aging Warehouses, where Master Blender Alan Smith was our guide. Then we got a special tour of the Visitor Center. The next day we learnt about Remy Martin Cognacs which was extremely interesting, then learnt more about Mount Gay Rums with Mount Gay Ambassador Chester Brown. We spend a lot of time with Chester which was really fun in rum shops, bars and restaurants and a seminar. Great people, great rums and a beautiful island.
My last day was spent touring the island with the organizers of the "Caribbean Rum and Beer festival" Cheryl and Glyn. They were the ultimate hosts and despite the fact that everywhere is closed on Saturdays we still managed to visit the West Indies Rum Distillery, the Portvale Sugar Factory and the Foursquare Rum Distillery, followed by rum shops and dinner. Hopefully I will get a chance to do it again in November at the Rum and beer Festival.
